Youth Announcements 1-15-12

  1. We do have youth activities tonight.  Hand bells start at 3pm, choir starts at 4pm and ministry teams and D-Groups start at 5:20pm.  We will not have youth activities next Sunday night because of the ski trip.
  2. We do have youth this Wednesday night.  We start everything off at 6:35 and we go until 7:45.  I am so excited about what God has in store for us this week.  This week we will also be starting to give out information on our mission trip to Nashville, TN July 14th – 21st.  Be there and bring a friend or two.
  3. We will be leaving on our ski trip this Saturday, January 21st.  You need to be at the church by 8:30 that morning.  All of your forms and money are due by this Wednesday, January 18th.  If you do not have forms for some reason please see Justin immediately.  We should be home Sunday by 8:30pm.  Make sure that you bring enough money to cover you for three meals at fast food places, plus anything else that you might want.
  4. Our student ministry is starting a food pantry here at the church.  This is something that came from our Faith, Hope and Love series.  This is a way that we can serve our city and church together as a student ministry.  To start it we are collecting non-perishable food throughout the month of January.  We want to have the pantry open by the beginning of February.  So, raid your cabinets (with your parents permission), go to the store and buy a couple of things, go door to door, whatever you need to do, just help out anyway that you can.  You can drop the food off whenever you are on campus.  Just leave it in one of the drop boxes in the chapel or youth hall.
  5. We will be having a youth Seedbed class on the Sunday mornings during the BFG hour on January 29th and February 5th.  This is a class for all interested in being baptized or joining the church.  If you are interested sign up in the youth hall.
  6. Girls, Friday night, February 3rd we are having a special time just for you.  It is a time of community, fellowship and worship.  Make sure you bring your own mug for Hot Liquid Night.  The hot tea, hot chocolate and coffee will be flowing.  This is going to be a very special night for our girl’s ministry as you look into the question of “Is beauty only skin deep?”  The event runs from 7:00 – 10:30pm.  This will be a night like no other before and you will absolutely love it.  Sign up in the youth hall and invite your friends to this.
  7. Sophomores don’t forget to rsvp for the midnight bowling trip with your Sunday school class (not called BFGs in honor of Mark Pressley).  You will be going on Feb. 10th.  Meet at the church by 10pm.  We should be back by 1:15am.  You will need to bring $12 to cover the cost of bowling and money for snacks.  You will also need to bring your A game because Justin and Mark are going to destroy you.
  8. Juniors and seniors, we are starting a Bible study for all of you that are hungry for an authentic faith, who are tired of religious complacency and want to fall in love with God all over again.  The study is Crazy Love by Fracnis Chan.  We will meet every Monday night at 6:30 at the Carmona’s starting January 30th.  This is an amazing study and you will learn tons from it.  If you are interested sign up in the youth hall or the chapel.
  9. Girls, join us on a journey to the heart of a woman and discover how women reflect the image of God.  A Bible/Book Study on the book Captivating will begin on Monday, January 30 at the home of ‘Miss’ Nina from 6:30 – 8:00.  The Study will last for 12 weeks.  Please sign up by or before January 15th.
  10. I still have a couple of spots for Caswell summer camp.  If you or a friend would like to go let me know and I will get you a spot.
  11. You can begin to sign up for D-Now Weekend.  D-Now is a retreat right here in town where we break up into groups based on grade level.  You will spend the weekend with your class and we will come together as groups for worship.  Dave Edwards is our speaker this year and we have a great group coming in to lead us in worship.  This is a great weekend full of God and fun and is the perfect time to invite friends.

2.    This Wednesday night we are having a Wacky Tacky Christmas Extravaganza Spectacular and Food Drive during our regular youth time.  Make sure that you wear the worst Christmas sweater that you can find (the best worst one wins a prize), bring any non-perishable food items that you can, and come prepared to celebrate Christmas with your youth group.  There will be plenty of fun and games and a time for us to remember the real reason for celebrating.  The food will be going to something very special that our student ministry will be taking part in. Show up around 6:30 for the last meeting of the year and bring your friends!
3.    We will not have BFGs on Christmas or New Year’s mornings.  We will have one worship time both mornings at 10:30.  There will also be no activities those nights either.  We will resume BFGs and Sunday night activities on January 8th.  There will be no youth worship on Wednesday, December 28th.  We will resume regular Wednesday night activities on January 4th
4.    You have about two more weeks to sign up for Caswell summer camp.  Camp this year is June 25th-30th and the cost is $260 with a $160 deposit due on March 1st.  Do not let money be the reason that you are not going with us.  If money is an issue please come and talk to me and we will get you set.  This is a great week for you to grow in your walk with God and in your relationships with the people in your youth group.  We have a great speaker this year and there is always a ton of stuff for you to do while you are at camp.  You can invite people on this trip.  I still need a couple more adults for this trip.  If you are interested and would like more information about what would be expected of you to chaperone a trip please come and talk to me.  Don’t miss this week!
5.    You still have time to sign up for our ski trip January 21st and 22nd to Boone, NC.  We will be skiing at Sugar and Beech Mountains during the weekend.  Cost ranges anywhere from $100-$140 for the trip depending on what you are doing.  If you have already signed up and have not put what you prefer (ski or snowboard), please do that as soon as you can.  I will be sending out the information to your parents the week after Christmas.  I still need a couple of adults to go on this trip.  If you are interested please let me know.
6.    Guys, if you are playing basketball please sign up on the youth hall or online at the church website.  You are not officially signed up until you fill out the form online (you can also get one at the church office).  The list on the youth hall is just so I can make sure that you have signed up online, sorry for the confusion.  The cost of the league is $15.
7.    Juniors and Seniors, you can begin to sign up for our Bible study in the youth hall.  We will be meeting on Monday nights at the Carmona house from 6:30-8pm.  We will be doing the Crazy Love study by Francis Chan.  The study starts on January 30th

Wacky Tacky Christmas Extravaganza Spectacular And Food Drive

What a wonderful day Wednesday, December 21st will be. For most of you, you will be getting out of school to start a fantastic couple of week stretch of no school as you partake in your Christmas/Winter Break. Others will already be out, but just knowing there is a Wednesday night should get you pumped up. What makes this even better, is that this is not just a normal Wednesday night. This is a Wednesday night with a Wacky Tacky Christmas Extravaganza Spectacular!

Make sure that you are there starting at 6:35 wearing the craziest, ugliest Christmas sweater that you can find. There will be a prize for the worst (or would that be best?) one. We will have a Christmas photo area for you to take pictures with all of your buddies in your attire. Also, there have been unconfirmed rumors that Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there. There will be plenty of Christmas fun and frivolity for all to enjoy with games, candy and Christmas hijinks. Bring a friend and we will see you next Wednesday night!

Along with all of the fun things going on, we will also be collecting any non-perishable food items that you can bring in to help start something really cool for our student ministry (which actually is just another fun thing).  We will give you all of the details when you arrive about what the food will be going to, but we can assure you that it is going to be something really cool that God will use to help a lot of people in need.  We believe that this will be the beginning of something huge that we will be able to serve our city with.  So, stop by the store, raid your pantry (after talking it over with your parents), go door to door collecting, whatever you need to do to get the food there, do it.
